Step 4: Non-income generating activities
Individual members of households may engage in activities that consume household labour, contribute to the welfare of the household but do not directly generate income. These may be natural resource based such as the collection of wood for cooking or non natural resource based such as childcare. They may be added to the livelihood and land use diagram particularly where the demands of these activities detract from the ability of individuals to engage in income generating natural resource based activities.
