Causal diagram for farming systems at Kakuyuni, on the Yatta Plateau

Two different types of farming family were identified in the case study:

  1. Families who depend mainly on arable cropping and for whom livestock is of lesser importance and
  2. Families for whom livestock farming is relatively important.

The causal diagram represents the main household and landscape level problems for both types of farming family. It differentiates between them by identifying the causes and effects specifically associated with cropped land and those specifically associated with grazed land.
