Participatory Rural Appraisal
Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) is an interdisciplinary approach to engaging communities in development through interactive and participatory approaches. It builds on techniques of Rapid Rural Appraisal pioneered by Gordon Conway and Robert Chambers to involve rural communities in their own needs assessment, problem identification and community action plan. It uses a wide range of tools often within a focus group discussion format to elicit spatial, time-related and social or institutional data.
